Recent Work

This piece was a revelation. I tried to capture the moment as I experienced it. I was moving the brush around out of instinct, choosing my colors because of an emotional connection. I love learning new ways of expressing shadow and light through color. I feel like I grew as a painter through this piece.

Courthouse

This piece was lots of fun and is of a subject that I absolutly think is one of the most beautiful structures in our area the Manitowoc County Courthouse. I am very pleased with the way it came out. I think that even though it was a study, it has the feel of plein air. I look forward to including this subject in future work.

Last Light

This piece is a study of a grove of trees across from my house. I was facinated with the way the light hit the trees which made them seem on fire. Just some of nature's glorious pyrotechnics.

Winter's First Light

This is the same grove of trees as the above painting just with a slightly different perspective and at an obviously different time of day. I am always fascinated with the way light changes both daily and seasonally.

Passing By

I loved the play between these two trees. I tried to push the color to the limit without getting to bright. Afterall, there's a storm coming.

Rahr Farm

Ole Rusty

The classic auto dealer near my house is great for finding challenging subjects. While painting this I couldn't help but think of how this truck got here. How many owners sat behind it's wheel? Where did it travel? After years of faithful service this is it's fate? To be neglegted in anonymity? Not if I have anything to say about it! I consider this a portrait.
